Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses, insured and tracked, and most orders arrive within two working days. Every unit is assembled and tested by hand. We provide constant updates about your order progress including tracking as soon as possible.

In the unlikely event IDX isn't for you, email hello@analoguedesk.co within 30 days of it arriving and I'll send return instructions. Return it complete and undamaged in its original packaging and I'll refund the price of the item within 7 days of it reaching me. If you're in Norway or Iceland, I'll refund the standard delivery charge too.

If it arrives damaged, I'll cover the return postage and repair, replace or refund it once it has arrived back at the workshop.

Meet the maker

IDX is designed and hand-built by me, Simon Pickles, in London.

I studied furniture and product design, then spent ten years designing and building exhibits for science museums, including the Science Museum in London, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Science Centre Singapore. After that came fourteen years in software, and eventually I missed making things you can hold.

IDX came out of wanting to keep an eye on a number I care about without reaching for a phone. More about my studio here.

How it works

  • Plug IDX into a USB power source.
  • Use your phone or laptop to join its temporary WiFi access point and configure it via your browser.
  • Select a data source and your preferred ambient lighting effect, and you're done.

The gauge has optional, swappable face-inserts for different scales and units. For market data like stocks or crypto, use -5% to +5%. For absolute data like Air Quality, the dial maps across a defined range. Templates to make your own face-inserts are provided.

Under the hood

Use the onboard software with built-in data feeds, or easily connect IDX to Home Assistant to show things like room temperature and energy usage as a glanceable needle movement. 

I believe in open hardware. Full documentation and pinouts supplied for those looking to customise the device. ESPHome configuration is also provided.

There's no mass production here. I work in batches to keep the quality where I want it, which means runs are small and occasionally sold out. You can ask to be notified when back in stock.
